Save NIC Now Endorses Durbin, Knudtsen, Havercroft for NIC

Coeur d’Alene, ID — North Idaho College (NIC) has been a cornerstone of this community, impacting over 21,000 lives, contributing over $60 million to the local economy and providing 1,300 jobs. However, NIC’s future is in peril due to serious mismanagement.

That’s why Save NIC Now, a political action committee (PAC) formerly known as Friends of NIC, has been working to ensure voters elect strong leaders who will fight for the future of NIC. Save NIC Now is excited to endorse Rick Durbin, Eve Knudtsen, and Mary Havercroft for NIC.

Christa Hazel, spokesperson for Save NIC, which has been educating and advocating for NIC, put it bluntly: “For the last three years, we’ve worked hard to alert people to the mess at NIC. The only problem is bad leadership from the extreme ideological majority trustees. This can be fixed, but only if the right people get elected. We need the voters to now do the right thing and elect good candidates who care about the community.”

Jim Coleman, Chairman of Save NIC Now, was equally direct: “The time for talk is over. We’ve got three strong, no-nonsense, Conservative-minded candidates—Rick Durbin, Eve Knudtsen, and Mary Havercroft. They’re not here to play games. They’re here to clean up the board and get NIC back on track. If you care about NIC and the future of this community, these are the folks you need to vote for.”

Save NIC Now has endorsed three candidates for the NIC Board of Trustees: Rick Durbin (Zone 3), Eve Knudtsen (Zone 4), and Mary Havercroft (Zone 5). They are ready to restore order, protect NIC’s accreditation, and make sure the college continues to benefit North Idaho’s students, businesses, and families.

Rick Durbin (Zone 3), an NIC graduate and business owner, shared his commitment: “NIC gave me the foundation for my career. Now, I’m stepping up to make sure the next generation has those same opportunities.”

Eve Knudtsen (Zone 4), the business owner of the largest Chevrolet dealership in Idaho, stressed NIC’s role in the local economy. “NIC is critical to our workforce and businesses. We need leaders who will protect this important resource for the future of North Idaho.”

Mary Havercroft (Zone 5), a retired educator with decades of experience, highlighted the need for accountability. “NIC’s future depends on strong leadership that puts students and the community first. I’m ready to bring that back to the board.”

Coleman continued: “This election is about saving NIC. Durbin, Knudtsen, and Havercroft are the leaders who will bring back common sense, protect our college, and ensure NIC serves this community for years to come.”

Absentee ballots will begin mailing on September 20, and early voting starts in October. To request an absentee ballot, visit the Idaho Secretary of State’s website, contact your local election office, or go to https://bit.ly/4bKuE95 for more information.

Save NIC Now urges voters to support Durbin, Knudtsen, and Havercroft on November 5th to ensure North Idaho College remains a strong, vital part of our community.
